Issue No. 301Fifth Condition: Parts of Wuḍū Should Be Ṭāhir

When One Has a Wound on His Face or Hands

Issue No.301- If a person has a cut on his face or hands and the blood does not stop, and water is not harmful to it, he should rinse it with kurr, flowing or tap water and meanwhile press it a little so that the blood may stop. Then he should perform wuḍū by Immersion according to the instruction explained earlier. However, if water is harmful, he should follow the instruction for jabīrah wuḍū which will be explained later.

Seventh condition: the intention of proximity to Allah (swt).Issue No.304- One should perform wuḍū with the intention of proximity to Allah (swt). Therefore, if a person performs wuḍū with the intention of showing off (rīyā) cooling himself, etc., the wuḍū will be void. However, if he is determined to perform it with the intention of obeying Allah, and meanwhile he knows that he will become cool also, there is no harm in it.

Ninth condition: The acts should be performed consecutively.Issue No.308- The acts of wuḍū should be done in such time that it is said that he is doing the acts one after another, and if he does so, his wuḍū will be valid even if the moisture of the previous parts have dried. An example would be when he is washing his right hand and the moisture on his face dries up owing to hot weather or wind. However, if he does not perform wuḍū consecutively rather with more than usual pause, his wuḍū is void, even though the previous limbs may not have become dry due to cold weather.

The Acts Should Be Performed by the Individual Himself

Tenth condition: Performing the acts personally.Issue No.310- A person making wuḍū should wash his hands and face and wipe his head and feet personally, and if someone else performs his wuḍū, or helps him in pouring water over his face or arms, or in wiping his head or feet, his wuḍū will be void. However, there is no problem in helping with the preliminaries of wuḍū [1] .

Twelfth condition: There should be no impediment.Issue No.316- There should be no impediment in water reaching the skin, and if a person knows that something has stuck to the parts of wuḍū but is doubtful whether or not it prevents water from reaching the relevant place, he should remove it.

Issue No. 317Twelfth Condition: There Should Be No Obstacle

Dirt under Fingernails

Issue No.317- A little dirt under fingernails would not invalidate wuḍū although, it is better to be cleaned. However, when the nails are clipped, the dirt which prevents water from reaching the skin must be removed. Moreover, if the nails are unusually long, the dirt collected beneath must be removed if it blocks the water from reaching the skin.

Issue No. 318Twelfth Condition: There Should Be No Obstacle

Swelling on the Parts of Wuḍū

Issue No.318- If swelling appears on parts of wuḍū because of being burnt or for any other reason, it will be sufficient to wash and wipe over the swelling, and if there is a hole in it, it will not be necessary to make water reach under the skin. However, if a part of the peeled skin sometimes hangs loose and sometimes not, water should be made to reach under it, provided that it is not harmful.
